Please note: all last‑minute updates to the program and other information will be posted on this wiki page:
http://www.astron.nl/meqwiki/3GCII-Workshop.
Program avaiable for week 1 and week 2.
Then workshop will be extremely hands‑on, with more than half the time devoted to practical sessions with simulations and real data. The following practical sessions are tentatively planned, again in no particular order:
* Simulations with MeqTrees and CASA
* Simulation of dish-based telescopes
* Calibration with MeqTrees, differential gains, measurement of DDEs
* Simulations of phased-array feed systems: APERTIF & ASKAP
* DDE measurement and application
* LOFAR beams and calibration of LOFAR data
* High-dynamic range calibration and imaging
During the workshop, there will be a number of round‑table discussions on beamshape-related topics. These will be prepared, introduced and led by workshop participants. Some of the topics will be invited, but anyone can propose to lead one or more of the topics below, or propose a new topic.
In no particular order:
* Overview of existing beamshape measurements (Tony Willis)
* Introduction to the Measurement Equation (RIME)
* DDE application (A-projection, facets, etc)
* PAF calibration issues
* AA calibration issues
* Instrumental polarization
* The influence of the ionosphere (on beamshape measurements)
* Pros and cons of sky rotation (of the beam pattern)
* Pros and cons of asymmetric beams
* Beam models for different telescopes
