Work on ASTRON's new building starts today!

| Description: | Today, ASTRON formally recognises the start of construction of our new building extension and the renovation of our existing buildings, in particular Building 1980 (currently housing ASTRON and JIVE). These new developments will enable us to properly accomodate ASTRON, JIVE, the NOVA Opt/IR group and the new ASTRON & IBM Center for Exascale Technology (DOME). As an added bonus, we will also have at our disposal several new meeting rooms and a auditorium capable of seating more than 100 people. Today, we are joined by representatives of the many partners that have helped us get to this phase of the project - NWO, the Province of Drenthe, Van Wijnen the builders, de Zwarte hond our architects, the municipality of Westerveld, and last but not least the neighbourhood societies of Drift/Bosrand en Lhee-Lheebroek. The start of the construction phase of the the new building project will be formally launched this afternoon (see poster above, courtesy Hiddo Hanenburg) by Prof. Karel Gaemers, chairman of the ASTRON Board. We look forward to many years of pleasure from the new extension, and the renovation and upgrade of our existing accommodation. |
