Delivery of the JWST-MIRI Grating Wheel Assemblies

Description: After assembly and integration at ASTRON the grating wheels (with their red protective covers) were delivered at MPIA (Heidelberg) for integration and testing on their mechanisms. Within the MIRI Spectrometer two grating wheels with each 6 gratings are used. This way the perfect grating for a particular wavelength range can be selected.

The Spectrometer Main Optics (SMO) is in development at ASTRON for the Mid Infrared Instrument (MIRI) of the James Web Space Telescope (JWST: the successor for the Hubble space telescope).
